This was a week ago, so sorry for the non-current fish report. Life just got in the way. Had probably one the best overall weeks of surf fishing with the family that came with its share of highs and lows and a was just a really fun time.

Pictures 1&2: Catch of the Week

~5’ wide Bullnose Eagle Ray (we think… I am open to correction). Not the monster I was looking for but a satisfying 20+ minute fun fight none the less. He did cost me a rod tip though… gotta get that fixed now.

Pictures 3&4: Pigfish, pigfish everywhere…

This is just the haul of the first two days. We threw back at least 20+ pigfish that day alone because we already had enough for a fish fry. That’s not even counting the sharks. Smoothhounds and mini-Atlantic Sharpnose’s were also out in force and made up nearly half of all bites. Everything on fresh shrimp.

Picture 5: Moments Before Disaster…

The photo is a screenshot of what would have been an epic video. One of the first casts for the whole week, tail-hooked and technically “landed” a flounder that was pushing well over 24”. I couldn’t get my hand around his head. Came unbuttoned as I tried to grab him. Literally sat on him and then he washed out from under me on the next wave. It still hurts… can’t keep them in NC (at all this year ☹️) but I would have at least liked a better picture.

Pictures 6&7: Bait Bucket Fun

Kids too young to fish? Get ‘em a bucket with some minnows in it and give them a net. Still counts towards number of fish caught “from the sand” right?
