Any idea what this clear goop that I keep picking up on my line and my bait from LA beaches is?

Also, does anyone ever actually catch anything with a Carolina rig and plastic grubs? I’ve been out there trying but keep coming up empty handed. Not sure if it’s my technique or just bad luck.

I’m getting the slime, they are called salps [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salp) some sort of sea creature that is probably being torn to bits by your line and hook.

As for the grubs – I use those with a 1 oz weight behind a 5 foot leader as a lure for surf perch. I don’t know if anything will bite them if they are just sitting there. I’ve caught surf perch by reeling those in though. I bet you’d get other fish doing that too. But if they are just sitting on the bottom… not so sure.

If I have bait soaking, I use Gulp sandworms or other Gulp stuff that are impregnated with smelly scents that fish like. That is, if I am not using sand crabs. During the summer months I use sand crabs or luckycraft for halibut.

Hopefully others will have better info for you.
