This was the biggest trout I’ve ever caught, and I’ve been fishing for trout my whole life. I caught it around 9 PM on a large mouse imitation, 6-wt rod. Released it healthy. I caught this fish in small water that I fish often, and I was blown away to see how big he was. I never thought I would have caught a fish this size in this river. This was in the Catskills. If you haven’t tried mousing, I highly recommend it. All you do is swing the fly- so the presentation is pretty easy. Definitely brings the beasts out when conditions are right.
I wish it was a better photo, but I’m grateful my 14 year old daughter was there on the bank sharing my excitement and capturing this shot.
