Will this be ok for casting lures, hopefully further than 20-30 yards. Or do I need to look into a actual surf rod?
It's a Shimano clarus.

It’s at the low end of what you’d want to be throwing. I would say a 1/2-2 ounce rod would probably be a better fit.
Since you already have this one, gather up some light lures and give it a go and see if it works for you.

This works. I have one same lure weight range but a 9’6” length and works great for Plastic lures. I throw a 5/8oz Plastic sardine. I even go up to 1 1/8oz divers for when i hit jettys and It works fine.
Getting good distance when casting really depends on the line pounds and reel. Those 2 have to match. For example if a reel calls for line between 20-30lb dont go over or below because it won’t cast right. Also the brand of line matters. At least in my experience maybe there are ol timers who know better.
