Stumbled upon, what I think, is a pretty spectacular deal on a Hardy Ultralite NSX SR that I’ve had my eyes on anyways. Have been looking at these rods for a while and it seems like there’s maybe a couple “generations” of models. For example I’ve seen 8’ 4wts for sale but I see Hardy now only has the 8’8” 4wt model. I’ve also noticed some rods that I think are the same model sometimes show they come with a square cloth rod tube, and some have the black metal rod tube. Photo of the one I’m interested in below. Is this an older model? Is there any substantive differences between these assuming they’re actually different generations of the same model.

  1. For that price there are 0 differences between generations and 0.2 differences between a #5 9’ and #4 8’ or 8’8.

I’d have bought it first and asked questions later.

The Hardy you have in the picture is their SR (Small River) and it is different from their mainline Ultralite. This rod in particular is a 6pc rod.

The Hardy Ultralite has now been replaced by the Marksman but their specialty models are still available on their website so I wouldn’t say it’s an older model. I’m sure Hardy will replace these eventually with their new Sintrix FLT.

See what these have recently sold for on eBay within the past 3-6 months. That’ll give you a good sense of value.
