Im just getting into fly fishing and I’m looking for a rod that will be best for small trout. I’m thinking a 3wt rod. (My 8wt saltwater rod is just a bit too much for these little guys 😅) I’ll mostly be fishing medium lakes and sometimes small streams. I don’t want to spend a lot of money, especially for a 3wt rod, maybe 300 CAD. Help me figure out what I might be after. I’ll most likely be purchasing a 5 or 6 wt in the future.

I’d recommend for small streams and lakes a 7.5′ 4wt. Buy one that fits your budget. TFO, Reddington and Orvis are some name brands that make rods in that range, so hit up your shop and test cast them. If you ask to cast them, the shop people will think you’re smart and experienced.
