Hey all, I’m going surf fishing for the first time in NC in the middle of December. I’m buying a Penn Pursuit IV Rod and Reel combo:

After doing some research, I plan to use a high low rig and fish finder rig. My target species is Pompano and red drum to begin with.
My 2 Questions:
1) What size test line should i get (i’ll be grateful for any references), should i get braid? Please include the leader size as well.
2) I’m fishing in December, is there anything i need to expect would be different? I know that a broad question but any info will help!

I’m getting the same combo, specially the 10 ft, I have no idea sheathed to use 65 or 80 lb braid. What kind of fish will you be targeting?
