Once. Beavers blow up my spots. Also Osprey and Loons.

Ok one time I was fishing a run 30k from the ocean and a seal came up and took a 14″ rainbow right off the end of my line, at first I thought it was a booted up salmon or sh but it was obvious what was happening pretty quick we made eye contact and he was gone so was the fish, lame.

Otters have been the coolest thing to blow up my spot. Then a porcupine watched me fish as he ate on the grass near the shore, but he didn’t ruin the fishing.

No….but I did see one of these critters in a full fight to the death with a tree squirrel, right in the middle of the road on my way to the stream.
The squirrel ended up getting away

One of the rivers I fish Atlantic salmon on has a very healthy mink population and they are always very working around and in the river. They don’t seem to bother the fish as much as the king fishers and mergansers though

My uncle caught one of these, when fishing for salmon in the dark. He thought he had a big fish on, but got very confused when the “fish” ran to the forest. Broke of the line, and never saw it again.

I was waiting for a hatch one morning, went down to a ripple and started swinging a couple flies. The good thing about swinging is you do not have to focus on the fly/indicator – the fish will let you know when they take. Noticed a mink swimming/climbing coming upstream. Saw me, hesitated for a moment and continued upstream past me. Couple minutes later he’s coming back downstream with a nice little brookie in his mouth. Just as he was almost out of sight I landed a small brown, so he did not out fish me! That was a good day.

Once a dog unleashed walking alone with its owner miles away. Scared the sh*t outa me. Chased me all the way back to my car. Ended my trip early.
I know dogs are friendly, but after what happened in my teens…..I don’t trust them no more.

Had one completely wipe out the fish population in a local pond 😥

See them all the time while on the water. Never had one put down the fish or mess up a pool. Usually they wander by, occasionally one will look at me expectantly if I have a fish on.

Saw a mink once while I was fishing, but he already had a fish in his mouth. I suspected I was near his home so I left to another spot upstream.

I was once fishing a large pool in a bend in the river. The river got both deep and wide at the same spot so the water slowed way down. The water on this particular day was very clear. I could see about a dozen trout at the bottom. I changed flies and fished for a long time at watched fish rise to see what I had only to pass once they’ve had a good look. Didn’t have any streamers with me to throw through the pool to make them make a rash decision. After a while, I heard rustling in the high grass behind me. One of these guys hopped out. Didn’t like that I was there, so ran back in the grass and appeared 100′ down stream. I wasn’t having any luck, so decided to just sit and enjoy the sighting. He eventually hopped in, swam around for a bit, dove, and reemerged with a trout. Glad one of us was having some luck. One of the most memorable fishing moments I’ve had.

Seen one two days ago surveying. A spawned out coho was right below it in a shallow pool. That mink wasn’t too thrilled to see us.

Many times LOL. Otters too.

No but they blew up my chicken coop. Literally looked like a bomb went off with a bunch of headless chickens

Haven’t seen one yet. Did have two otters float past me and swim around for while. Rare sight so it was pretty cool.
We went on Friday and a big brown trout was swimming in the shallow end of the pool and a heron got it. Smashed it off the rocks for awhile and down the hatch lol. Didn’t think they could eat fish that big.

This happens way too often in the Pacific Northwest. Otters and Beavers in freshwater. Otters, seals, and sea lions in salt.

Scare? No. Eat? Yes. But some Belisle #110s and Victor #1s took care of them. Trout came back the next year.

Sketchy otters, beavers, and marmots for me.

Mink!
Yes, I was fishing my “lucky spot” one day but the action was completely dead. After 20 minutes or so I saw that guy across the river giving himself a bath and diving in the river. I can’t say for sure, but I think I saw that son-of-a-B wink at me. Haha. I went straight home, dejected.

Yes, best one was 3 pups playing and fighting with each other about 20 metres downstream. As soon as they started I realized I wasn’t gonna get any more fish there so I just reeled in and enjoyed the entertainment

Once at my local garbage pond with huge bass. I saw one unironically get eaten by a bass. Me and the guy 20 yards next ti me were shocked.

Had a baby mink come up and watch me fish the Au Sable near Lake Placid a few years back. Then the mom came up and really read him the riot act for chillin with humans, haha. Got it on video!

No but I had one scare the poo out after hiking a couple hours toy spot. Came up over the scrabble to see one dart out at my feet. I’m sure I scared him more but didn’t expect rocket propelled fur snake to come flying out.

I have minks fishing my spot all the time. They’re cute lil buggers. Bite still seems to be on even while they’re around.
I’ve had otters get uncomfortablly close while night fishing before. I actually left the spot as they kepts getting closer.
Cormorants and loons fish alongside me all the time.
Muskrats, beavers make an appearance fairly often.
Even had a raccoon hang out with me. He was foraging for freshwater clams on the far shore and we just were around each other for like 15 minutes.

Drift fishing down a river in NE with a friend and we watched a bald eagle snag a fish out of the water about 50ft away from us. My buddy tossed his pole down and said it’s time for a beer because we hadn’t caught but one fish after a few hours.

Beavers, marmots, eagles, ospreys, elk, moose, bears. These fuckers will high hole me worse than Chad thinking he is a guide. I have a broken rod right now from an eagle that came down and decided he wanted my fish more. Snapped rod and instead of the tippet snapping the welded loop let loose. Not even mad. Was pretty impressive.
