Still new to fly fishing and I’m in Florida fishing mostly fresh water starting out. Targeting anything I can catch.

  1. What you posted aren’t tippet rings, but regardless, learn to tie knots properly and you won’t need these.

  2. Personally? Not a chance. But do they serve a purpose? Yes they do.

I like eliminating failure points. But for some the ease of use might outweigh that!

  3. The thing in that photo is not a tippet ring and appears to serve no purpose. Just tie the knot directly onto the eye of the hook. Tippet rings can be useful. I use them in my nymphing rig below the sighter so that I can easily swap out different lengths of tippet below without losing sighter to knots each time. I wouldn’t use them in a dry fly rig.

  4. Nah! It would be fine on a big streamer. Otherwise the weight alone is changing how your fly sits, moves, and acts on/in the water. No need.

I don’t know what you call these snap things but they’re not tippet rings.

I use tippet rings or micro swivel primarily to replace tippet and save leader. Works great for that.

I would expect these behemoths to work ok with big streamers but I prefer more delicate work
