Is there any “rules” to where you should and shouldn’t drill holes?
Should I use my handheld auger or my spud bar to check/measure

I brought all the gear needed for ice fishing. I haven’t gone since I was a kid.
Something feels awkward about walking onto the lake , drilling a bunch of holes, setting a tent up, and just chill.

sure nobody owns the lake, but setting up shop 10 feet from a guy is frowned upon. usually you want to be 30 to 50 feet away from anybody else, but sometimes the fish are only biting in the one spot, amd piling up happens. generally if you’re farther away than your line is deep, you’re good.

    My rule of thumb

I don’t want to be close enough to overhear other’s conversation when they are using their normal speaking voice.

Otherwise I’ll go wherever I want.

  3. Fish wherever you’d like. Use common sense. Don’t fish right next to someone. Take a look around at others and mimic their spacing if you are unsure of the etiquette. I suggest testing a couple spots for a bite before you set up shop. Have fun!
