And my new table has a tapered edge. Any ideas on how to attach this securely?

Add a piece of wood on both side that goes over the taper

When I was 18, I just dealt with it and constantly readjusted the clamp. Other option might be to get a big sheet of plywood or pine board and clamp the vice to that.

Clamp to a board on top of the table. Protects the table top. Don’t forget to put a towel or something on the table first to stop it sliding about (and scratching the table)

A fairly large cutting board can be used. Big enough to counterbalance, can hang it over the curved edge.

You can buy a Griffin weighted base for about $40 that will hold just about any vise.
Other than that, find a heavy cutting board at Goodwill to clamp it to and let it over hang a bit

As mentioned by others the posts on most vises are the same diameter so you can buy just the weighted pedestal I’ve also seen them made from a brick and wrapped in fabric. Just need the correct drill bit.

I use this base, it’s the cheapest I know of: [https://www.jsflyfishing.com/products/flat-pedestal-base](https://www.jsflyfishing.com/products/flat-pedestal-base)
$20 bucks.
