I am going to experiment with a drop shot nymph rig. Where I fish there are a lot of slanted ledge rocks, so lots of lost flies from getting stuck in rocks. I was thinking of adding small tippet (6X, 7X) to the end of the leader with split shot and a weak knot. If the split shot gets stuck and I break off it could save flies. Does this sound like a plan? The rig I was looking at is here: https://guiderecommended.com/how-to-tie-and-fish-a-traditional-nymphing-rig/

You don’t need a knot. Crimp the shot on the dropper and if it hangs up you can tug the tippet through the crimp.
I just tie a single overhand knot to hold it as my dropper
