Was having a rough day fishing, so I went flipping rocks to see what I could find. Ended up seeing maybe 10 of these tiny bugs. Is it a midge or a tiny stonefly larvae? Also, what would be a good pattern to imitate?

That’s what I was thinking but was unsure. Gonna tie up some something a lot smaller than what I was fishing today! Thanks for the info!

    Stonefly.

You can match it in size…but most stoneflies have 2-3 year life cycles so if a stream has stoneflies it probably has them in every size from 6-26. I rarely fish stones smaller than 10…but occasionally I will downsize to a 14 or so.

Winter mini stones. Stonefly live in the water and few years. There are small stoneflies, but also small stonefly like this could be early early stage Stonefly that end up size 10. I just mention it because I’m not sure everyone has a clear concept that stonefly and salmon flies spend many years in the streams, molting, growing. You may think a small salmon fly is a adult stonefly or that every small stonefly is some alternative stonefly species… thier just in different growth stages
