Got my new rod and reel today and switched the Reel around for right hand real. Is it going to be a problem the line coming off close to the rod instead of the bottom side of the reel? Wondering if I you should just ask the order shop to respool it for me.

  1. Look up the manual online. It’s on the Orvis site. Pop the spool off and switch the retrieval.

  2. I mean, it technically works just looks weird.

If that’s not a problem, go nuts. Otherwise turn it around. It’s easy to strip and rewind 90′ of fly line. The 60 or so yards of backing, ont he otehr hand, I’d either just wind onto a whole other reel by tying it to the other reel and pulling it in or strip it, throw it away, and start fresh.

Then jsut rewind your fly line back on.

I’m a lefty. Here’s what you need to do. 1 either bring it to someone who knows what they’re doing or 2 pull the line and backing off, pull the spool apart. There’s a little nut (or drag system) you need to flip around in the middle, then put your backing and line back on.

You do it once and you’ll laugh how easy it is.

I tried it this way, can confirm it’s a pain in the rear.  Your line will loop up over the butt of the rod constantly,  just respool it only takes a minute.
