I have a 9ft rod and plan to make a high-low fluorocarbon rig to surf fish in HHI, SC. I’ve heard Gamakatsu hooks are reliable, but are the swivels a good size and weight to hold a 3oz pyramid sinker and 30lb braided line (not pictured)?

Should I also try different size hooks on the rig? Maybe do a 2/0 and 3/0 in case of sharks or big reds?

  1. Your rod will break before those swivels will 🙂 … you’re good.

You can upsize the hooks to 3/0 or 5/0

I’ll advise you to tie a double knot in the line between your lower hook and the swivel to the sinker. Nothing will attach to the knot but it’ll serve as a weak link in your rig so that if you get hung up, the line will break at that knot instead of further up.

I use 50 lb mono. With two clams and a weight you are pushing your luck with less.
