Any idea why the top Walleye is so much lighter than the other two? Is it a sex thing? Or maybe just because it was younger. Anyone know? It was just over 15"

  1. It looks like it’s been laying there longer than the others, but seriously fish can vary in color. With walleye it has nothing to do with its age or sex. Some fish are just darker or more pale than others. Just like we don’t all look the same. Neither do fish.

A lot of fish can change their colors and shades for various reasons, usually for camouflage. I’m not sure if walleye can do that, but the lighter one may have been cruising sand flats, and the darker ones could have been on mud flats or in the weeds. It could also just be genetics. There’s lots of other reasons, but those are generally the top reasons why the colors are different
