Set me up with a leader construction kit!
I started tying euronymphing leaders and now I want to move onto tapered leader construction.
I found this one, thoughts? https://www.murraysflyshop.com/products/mfs-classic-leader-kit?srsltid=AfmBOoqzreZ3Si50DdYVbyc4ngsIM6kvv5WJWyovsLKPd-9Gq11T1xKm
I buy 9ft 5X/6X tapered leaders, the Rio Fluorocarbon ones. I have like 10 of those leaders in ok/rough shape (1-4 years old–not sure how long they're good for) and a spool of 5X and 6X tippet.
I target wild spooky trout (8-16") on small spring fed streams in WI.
One specific problem I notice with my current leaders is on unbroken water my tippet will sit on the surface and I dont like it (I think it spooks fish). I tried Loon's Snake River Mud Paste on my leaders and it didn't do what I wanted. I want my floating line to float, the butt section of my leader to maybe float and the taper to sit just below the water surface (ideally in an S-curve shape so there's no drag on the fly).
I've been reading a lot on this sub's comment section about ditching the welded loop and loop to loop connection, and this is the year!
What should I buy?
What should I read?
What should I watch?
