Cracked/chipped female ferrule on a mid section, Scott Radian. Believe the sections worked themself loose causing excessive stress on the ferrule. Seems to me it's only the coating though.
What are my options here? Is it repairable? If so is it a home job or do I have to turn it in? Or do I bite the bullit and see if I can order new sections from Scott?

My experience with Scott has not been positive, but I would still see what they can do (If it’s under warrantee). If it’s not under warrantee, I’d take it to a local rod repair shop. They’ll have the right products to seep in and fill any cracks if that wrapping can be saved, or know how to remove the epoxy and possibly even the wrap, to have it redone. If none of those options work, talk to local rod builders or get on a rod builder forum and ask for assistance.
The repair isn’t difficult if you have the right product and the right approach.
It’s repairable. Don’t know if I’d try it myself since Scott only charges like $150 including return shipping.
If it’s just the resin coating and there is no warranty, I’d fix it with a little UV resin or clear epoxy and keep fishing.
Contact Scott. I’ve had good experience with Scott’s warranty service.
It’s a 1k+ fishing rod they will replace the section at a minor cost probably 50$. Contact them they will want more info, That’s what most manufactures do.
Obviously it’s a nice rod that you probably want to keep in as good shape as possible, but I have gotten small cracks like these on several rods and have never noticed it losing performance or it breaking further from the cracks, even with fighting fish in the 23+ range. Seems to me like a cosmetic issue more than anything.
Composites engineer here.
The braid is definitely not cracked, that is just the resin that is.
The best repair would use vacuum pressure to suck resin into the crack. All you need to do is stop the crack from propagating, which you can do by just adding resin on top and annoying to cure. Adding a bad if fiberglass or carbon would be ideal, but probably not required. I would though.
Put a drill bit wrapped in tycek tape in the hole so the resin stays out.
Doesn’t look like it’s the graphite itself, just the resin coating on the wraps
Contrary to the feedback you’re receiving in the majority of the comments, yes – it’s cracked.
To verify, look on the interior of the female ferrule and you’ll see a white line that’s located under that area. The discoloration in the threadwork under the flexcoat is caused by the blank expanding and stressing the thread.
You can fish it until it gets worse. Send it back for replacement. Or, if you’re feeling handy, cut off the ferrule wrap, trim the ferrule above the crack, and rewrap.
I’ve always viewed ferrule cracks as a little like cancer that keeps hanging on. The cut and rewrap will buy you time, but there’s likely micro-cracking that’s spread further up.
And for context, I worked for one of these rod companies and dealt with this issue at least daily.
