Currently have a Jiffy White Lightning gas auger. Other than being heavy it still looks and runs great after almost two decades of drilling.

Looking to possibly go electric and save some weight, space, and cut out the fumes. I have an 8" Mora hand auger and was also considering picking up a 6" Laser. Is the drill I have powerful enough?

What are some of the go-to electric options guys are going with? No budget here, just want to buy once cry once.

I used a K Drill with a 20v very similar to this one and I did not make it through the ice one time. Gotta have the DeWalt XR.

Electric augers, I know the ion is popular around here. The strike master electric has been treating my buddy very well for a few years now.

  2. Look up the specs of the drill model. Look up spec requirements of auger attachments you’re interested in. Compare numbers.

I use this same drill in my clam plate with the gear box and it performs flawlessly with an 8” auger. I get 40+ holes with a 5ah battery through 10-12” of ice

It would probably be fine for a 6 inch, but you aren’t getting more than a few holes with that little battery. Anything bigger would be pushing it.
