Hello everyone,
As the title suggests, I am looking at investing in a rod for slinging poppers, metal jigs, bucktails, pencil baits, etc. in the surf. Ideally, I would be looking to cast lures between 1-3 oz as far as possible along the mid-atlantic beaches (Assateague, OBX, etc). I have a few older Penn SS reels (6500, 7500) that I could pair, but all of my current surf rods are rated for heavier weight, and I have primarily used them for bottom rigs with pyramid weights. Yes, they cast, but I am looking for maximum distance (without switching over to conventional reels).
I have looked at a few different rods, including the Penn Carnage III 12' medium light (https://www.pennfishing.com/products/carnage-iii-spinning-surf-rod?variant=41966374813836), Team Daiwa 10'6" medium (https://daiwa.us/products/team-daiwa-surf-rods), as well as the St. Croix Triumph 10' Medium (https://stcroixrods.com/collections/saltwater/products/triumph%C2%AE-surf-spinning-rods-2020), but I am open to suggestions. I'm trying to stay under $250, and am always happy for an over-performing budget option (I have two Tica's I use for bait, but they are a bit stiff for the lighter lures I am looking to throw).
Tight lines, and I appreciate feedback and suggestions!
