My dad was just gifted some flyfishing gear, but we can't figure out what we're looking at with 2 of the items. They look like reels or parts of reels, but we can't see anywhere to attach anything to them. None of the holes have threads. Any ideas?

Those are spare spools for two different reels.
They are part of fly reels. Cassettes basically.
