I thought they were for trout I'd be catching with my 5wt but they look so big to me. Closer in size the the flies I got for my 8wt.

Personally, probably 5wt. You could maybe make either work though. The top one looks weighted, so that would be easier with the 8wt than the bottom, but hard to tell without actually feeling the weight.

I’d start with a 5. Try different casts out to see if one more comfortable than another and pay attention to the wind. Half the fun of it is trying to figure it out.

5 weight would probably work fine unless you are bass fishing or chasing something bigger. I use a 8 weight for Steelhead in PNW.
