Sorry for the horrible pictures he wouldnt stay still and my camera wanted to focus on big blue my biggest and friendliest baby bluegill, I found this guy about 2 weeks ago in a creek that moves very fast with a ton of weeds, i almost never catch fish on rod and reel there but god its amazing for tearing thru the weeds with a dipnet for these little species i love and can legally keep where i live.
But to get to the point when i found him i started shaking. Ive seen and hept his species before without even knowing as i thought they were baby yellow perch. But hes almost 5 inches. The only other species ive caught from those weeds were less than an inch or two besides the occasional shiner. But i have much more luck trapping those since they seem to stay deeper where the currents more calm. 2 steelhead fry / coho smelt and him are the only fish ive seen here above 4 inches.
Is he/she a monster or am i tripping? Im not very familiar with this species but i did a lot of research before i put it in my tank ofc and it seems like a perfect pet. Not very aggressive and primarily scavenges for little bugs and snails.
And its also considered invasive where i live so its a keeper fs. I would love to know if anyones every had luck catching these on rod and reel because ive seen almost no information about these guys anywhere and i really want to see if i can catch any bigger ones on an ultralight
