My son frequently catches fish out of the creek in our backyard. Today was the first time he’s caught one of these but not the first time I’ve seen one. I’ve never seen them have these bumps though. Any ideas what it could be?

I’ve seen creek chubs covered with knobs like that
Just a male creek chub that’s ready to spawn. They make quite interesting nests out of rocks
Spawning tubercles. Many species of minnows get them.
