Got a new PFD yesterday, an NRS ambient which wasn't cheap but much cheaper than cremation.
Here's the thing I work in drowning prevention and water rescue training and have done so for 25 years. I get to go through all of the detailed coroner reports to get the statistics. And a few key take aways.
– Anyone can drown regardless of age, sex, or swimming ability.
– Older adults are much more likely to drown that anyone else.
– 90% of boating fatalities are not wearing a PFD or lifejacket.
– many are under the influence of alcohol
– many are out there alone
– 60% are swimmers. I was a lifeguard for 15 years and been open water swimming my entire life. One bad day and I'm a corpse being recovered.
Find a PFD that fits and is comfortable for all day wear and wear it. Seriously pleas put me out of a job.
