Hello all, need some advice on my transportation setup. Me and my girlfriend are honestly paranoid of bringing these anywhere over like 30 minutes.

Does anyone see any issues with how we currently have it rigged? Advice on what to do different?

Any input would be gladly appreciated!

  1. Maybe a small trailer would be a good investment for transport. You can get a small 4×8 for not too much.

  2. I was the same way at first. One thing you should do is put a twist in every section of the nylon straps. This will prevent any loud buzzing when the wind catches them.

  3. Also be very careful when using ratchet straps. You can cause damage to your kayaks by putting too much stress on the plastic. I car topped our kayaks for several years, using the non-ratchet style that came with the carriers I used.

  4. Your bow and stern lines can’t stop the kayaks from moving forward, the stern line needs to be opposite the bow line.

    This //kayak\. Not \kayak\

Since the vehicle is short, find a way to tie the individual kayaks to the cross bar so they can’t slide forward. Imagine stopping really fast…what happens?

i think each kayak should be secured to the J Hooks independently. And the strap should go under and around the cross bar so if the J hook connection to the cross bar fails the kayaks are still secured to the cross bars
