Aquariums: 7° difference in thermometers… which do I trust??
The thermometer that I’ve had for the past year says 70°F, but the new digital thermometer that came in with a new heater I bought today says 77.9°F… wtf!

Well Id probably trust the digital, looking at the stainless steel one, looks kinda like the bottom of the glass might be down too far. visually moving that up to the center of the hole might bring it up to 78 +/-

I’d trust the digital more, as long as it’s calibrated. Get a cup of ice water and put the thermometer in it. If it’s sitting right at freezing level, then you’re good

i have the first one and honestly i’d trust the glass over the digital but now idk

I wouldn’t trust that digital thermometer, I had one that gave very inaccurate temps. Get a third measurement from something else like a meat thermometer (properly clean before and after)

Id trust the digital 🙂

Definitely trust me digital one more. The glass tube on the other one can shift.

I use an IR temperature probe and take a few readings of the surface temp and average them out.

feels like a digital w

I have two of the same digital and they read high. I have several other thermometers I trust more, and then I just mentally calibrate the thermometer in each tank and check periodically. Once it’s running well the only concern is major failures up or down.

Compare to a “meat” insta read. Both should show same room temp side by side… Or use Ice cold water.. 32t o33F . Those bulb ones are always off.

Put both in an ice bath, it should read about 32°F (0°C) depending on your elevation. Choose the one that is more accurate. Ideally you would do this with boiling water too, but those dont seem to be able to handle those temps
