So I'm a marine bio student looking to do some benthic habitat mapping using a multibeam echosounder (MBES). My university has it's own multibeam mounted on a mini catamaran, and I'm planning on towing it from a kayak to map out a small bay.

I've got a kayak to use, but I'd like to install a track so that I have somewhere to mout a tablet – there's an app that connects to the MBES so I can see it in real-time and adjust my course. Thing is, my kayak is a sit-in (which I massively prefer to sit-on) and pretty much all the tutorials I can find on installing tracks are for sit-ons.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to do this? My kayak is very similar to this one. Would directy in front of the cockpit be the best place?
