After spending too much time down the rabbit hole about gear & set up, I ended up pairing the 11ft Ninja Dagger rated 2-7oz with the Pen Squall 2 15sdcs, 17lb Suffix tritanium main line with 50lb shock leader. I'm using an improved blood knot for my shock leader knot and it passes through the guides better than the uni to uni imo and holds very well. I know alot of folks go with 12 – 13ft rods but I wanted to get a feel and work my technique before launching a heaver. This was my first time using a conv set up w/ no prior practice at all! Absolutely wrecked my second cast to a nasty birds nest that made me question this š After talking with some friendly shop employees and other people who fish with this style I got a little better flow but know I definitely got a lot of work to do with my technique to really sling it out there. Challenging, but enjoyable as I've learned how to fix my birds nest when it does happen and not get discouraged because I really had no idea what the hell I was doing to begin with. Landed some nice Blues and brought in a medium sized ray with very little effort compared to fighting one on my spinning set up as they are a tackle tester. I really like the leverage and the way this reel works with fighting fish, gonna keep up the practice and get ready for some big drum in the fall as that's the ultimate goal! This is down in Hatteras
