Hey there! I am 59 and my son is 22. We bought a couple used kyacks and have been having some fun on tbe local lake catching sunfish. Mine is the native watercraft mantaray 11.5.
I have been transporting the kyack on the jeep roof but it's kinda a bitch getting it up there and off. I have broke the old sun beaten handles and have ordered replacements.
I have found its a bit crowded on the kyack while trying to paddle and fish at the same time. I was also on the lake when it was quite windy and had a difficult time paddling in.
Can I mount a small trolling motor to this kyack to cruise the lake? Recommendations for a small well built one?
I have heard some horror stories about anchors. I might just Not use one. I DO always wear my PFD though.

You can add a trolling motor to nearly any kayak. Some are are easier to do than others, but generally it’s possible. Just make sure to look up regulations within your state as your kayak may be considered a powerboat and which will add additional requirements.
I also have a bad back, broke my L5 when I was 21. Do yourself a favor and grab something like this. It suctions onto your back window so you can just lean the kayak against it and push it up. It’s been a HUGE help for me. Makes getting it down a lot easier as well.
