Is there usually this much difference in the color between a Brooktrout and a rainbow that come from the same body of water?

Yep. These are two different species. Brook “trout” are a type of char.

Yes. Brook trout are not an actual trout but a Char which is confusing because of their common name. They are all Salmonids though. Sometimes rainbows can trend towards that more orange pink fleshy meat. Usually I notice this in rainbows caught at higher elevations. Nothing wrong with the meat, 100% normal.

My buddy used to tell me that the pinker the meat the more native it was versus the white meat being stocked. Too late now but often time you can see stocking wear and tear on the fins..

Stocked trout have whitish flesh due to their diet. Wild native trout typically look very much like salmon would look due to their diet. I much prefer the flavor and texture of the wild trout.
