I did my first tank cleaning involving a 30% water change on May 31st. Water parameters before the water change and thorough tank scrubbing (including accessories) was Ammonia 0.25 ppm and Nitrate 5.0 ppm. Within three days of cleaning, the algae started to return, and now it’s worse than it was 6 days ago. What do I need to be doing to inhibit algae growth? Today water parameters are Ammonia 0 ppm and Nitrate 5.0 ppm. Heater is consistently at 82 degrees F. This is how it looks currently with Mortimer swimming along.

  1. How long have you had the tank? Is it cycled? What do you mean by “thorough tank scrubbing (including accessories)”? For how long are the lights on?

Idk what kind of substrate you have but my algae problem was due to too much light & nutrients bc I have stratum.

I had about as many plants as you do now & quadrupled the amount to fix the problem. Just went to a fish store and spent like $60 on a huge bag of plants and floaters. Algae problem no more as they are now fighting for nutrients and shaded from light by the floaters lol
