Hello everyone! I'm from Australia and over here carp are treated like water rodents. I got into fishing only a couple of years ago and It was only through meeting a British gentleman locally that I learned about how in the UK they are a deeply reverted and respected fish.

Can someone please explain why carp are so loved & cared for?

Bonus picture of my first carp catch, caught on a size 10 bait holder hook with worm.

I’m US based and local to me most people would agree with the water rodents sentiment. There is a decent culture of fly fishing for them (and it’s a blast) but it’s not big enough to really matter. It’s much more common to bow fish for them. I never disliked carp but have grown to appreciate them through fly fishing and just recently started to get into fishing then with spinning gear. I’m glad the culture doesn’t appreciate them though. I have easy access to fishing spots.
