Hey all. I’m landlocked in Phoenix but visit Cali once or twice a year. Last year I got some great advice from you guys. Used my 6’6” M bass spinning rod to land some surf perch and a tiny ray. Had a lot of fun. Well, today I went and invested in an Okuma rockaway 9’ M rod with a rockaway 8000 series reel. Local shop had minimal salt gear, though it was actually a lot for Phoenix. I was going to get a bass pro ugly stick big water combo but decided to spend about double and get this set. I sort of wish they had a smaller reel but they didn’t.
I will be in Encinitas all weekend fishing all day hopefully. Hoping I have enough tackle choices. Any tips for that area always appreciated. I’m bringing all my bass gear just for options. Planning on throwing the minnow style jerkbaits mainly, maybe the jigs/roosters.
Do any of you fish big ass senko style Texas rigged worms in the surf? Is that a thing? Stoked I get to do this. Hoping to get something big. Would freak if I got a keeper halibut. Would also LOVE to get a big striper. And you know, not be working.
