  1. I’d reccomend just ordering replacement bail parts.

The screw/arm that flips open first. It looks like the bail arm/hinge is getting stuck half way so possibly some corrosion or just needs cleaning.

See if that fixes it. If not then keep replacing parts of the bail.

The holder for the line roller is way out of alignment, the pointed end should be facing away from the reel not facing upward. loosen the nut that secures the line roller to the arm and rotate the assembly 45 degrees away from the spool, then re tighten the assembly. I have never seen one turn quite that far out of position, if all else fails, I would simply order a new bail wire from Pure Fishing, they are not that expensive. I believe the part number is VP347-03, and should cost roughly between 13.00 to 16.00 dollars U.S.D. refer to the reel schematic to fully understand the correct position of the line roller holder.

It’s probably one or both of two potential problems. The wire of the bail could be a little bent, which can cause sticking. The other possible cause is sand or possibly a broken spring inside the housing where the roller is that winds your line to the spool.
