It's more than twice my reliable PowerPro, which I think is a damned fine line at a fair price point. This shit here? Look, I KNOW one of you has bought it. Be real with me: how much do you regret this purchase? It's fine if it's just a little bit, it's nice but not THAT nice, etc., but there's just no possible way this is worth the asking price… Or is it?

No. But I want to know about it without getting my toes $30 wet on slightly better PowerPro but now super expensive.

I’ve only googled it but according to Berkeley’s website it’s designed so it can be seen on forward facing sonar

$30 isn’t crazy money for quality line. I gladly pay about that much for my preferred lines to know I’ll have no issues

It’s good quality thin braid. That’s what it costs. If you want to have a heart attack go look at the prices of JDM lines

  4. It’s fused braid that doesn’t completely suck, an ultra-niche product for the few use cases where you want fusing. It is also called Forward because it is designed with a larger sonar cross section, for people who use forward facing sonar.

The intended market is either ice fishermen or other niche use cases where you prefer fusing, or sweaty tournament guys who stare at their sonar screen all day. Hell, considering that it is fused, designed for spinning reels, is sinking, and comes in super low pound tests, I think the intended market is probably jigging and spoons on the ice.

Now if you want to buy a super-premium braid that is better than the PowerPro v2, Sufix 832, Berkely X9 or J Braid X8 (I consider these four similar enough, and would buy whichever one is on sale), try Sufix 131 – Super smooth, super quiet, and better knot strength.

Really seems like it’s just extra thin. Not really sure why someone pick this over a true sinking braid like almight or X-braid.

  6. I was at my local tackle shop a few weeks ago to buy line for a new to me reel. I went in thinking I was going to buy some YGK brand braid from Japan as a buddy highly recommended it for surf fishing.

The guy at the tackle shop I spoke to is an extremely talented surf fisherman and swayed me from buying the YGK. He told me that Berkley Fireline is thin, powerful and will never wind knot. He’s very knowledgeable and kind of a local celebrity amongst the fishing community by me so he swayed me. While he was selling me the fireline he told me that the only braid better is the Forward. He swore by it up and down but can’t in good conscience recommend it to someone looking to spool 300-400 yards of braid on a surf reel because of the cost lol. He really seemed passionate about it though …

I’m thinking I may get some to try on a really small spool, like a 2000 size, just to see what all the commotion is about!

Because people will buy it thinking more money equals more quality.

I run Amazon line that I get 1500yards for 30$. Never had an issue.

I can tell you that I largely am not a fan. I have weird breaks on 10lb.

The first day I took it out I literally lost one casting a spinner. I was really going after it, but seriously just casting.

Thought it was a fluke, but it happened to both me and my buddy a few times up north also just casting. He was using a different spool on his own rod

I will say though I haven’t broke it on a fish and have caught some pretty decent fish with it.

Almost like the sudden stresses are an issue for the line.

I use a lot of different braids and breaking while casting has never been an issue before
