Bought a used Curado DC. Checked it head to toe and it seems like it’s in fine order. I spooled the mono that was on there, spooled on 4lb mono backing to 30lb braid. Line lay is abysmal. I am very familiar with spinning reels, rebuilt many. Know how to fix line lay, etc. this isn’t my first bait caster, either. Line is properly tensioned, brakes are adjusted correctly. Just not too sure what could be causing this.
So, before I unspool this thing and do a full breakdown/ relube, is there a more simple answer?

Is it from reeling in something that has intermittent tension? Jerkbait, topwater, frog?
I’ve heard to high drag tension can cause the line to dig in
Super thick braid generally just doesn’t lay as well as thinner stuff. I usually use 20lb braid max on my general purpose reels and save the heavier stuff for punching and frogging. It may limber up and level out better with use.
Have you checked the worm gear?
