Hey everyone,
Fairly new to fishing and was gifted some of my grandfathers gear. Not too sure what it would be good for and hopeful y’all could help me out.
There is a kunnan 8’6” rod and a Penn 210 reel.
I mostly fish freshwater but do have some easy access to salt water spots in the northeast. Would this gear be better suited for one area or the other?
I’m sure I could make use of the rod across the board salt and fresh water. It just doesn’t have an action or lure rating on it.
The Penn reel I’m not entirely sure of. Can this be used on any rod or does it have to be used with a specific type of rod? What kind of fishing would this reel best be suited for?
Thanks in advance.

I’m not familiar with vintage Penns, but if that’s a Penn conventional, it’s pretty much a saltwater reel, designed for trolling or dropping lures. You can cast it, but it’ll need a pretty heavy lure and without brakes, it might be annoying to cast.
