I usually buy premade booms with quick change swivels and attach the hook and other parts after; however, I wanted to start making the whole rigs from scratch because it is cheaper and it gives me something to do when I'm bored.

Good effort mate what size hooks are you using? And you need to inset the QC swivel through the front (take out and insert the opposite way) so the flat side is above the eye of the hook – else it can catch on the fishes mouth and can damage it
