Hello! I am new to fishing, but my boyfriend (who has been teaching me) is very seasoned and has been at it for years. He previously had an Ugly Stik that was his favorite rod and it was stolen a few weeks ago. His birthday is coming up, and I want to buy him a new Ugly Stik. Going through their website, I’m at a loss for what is best or even right for him.
Here are the specifics of his fishing style: he generally casts and leaves the rod in a holder. He doesn’t jig often. He often fishes from the beach at the ocean or at the rivers. So a lot of saltwater but some fresh. But always he is casting not jigging. The types of fish over here are striped bass, blue fish, porgies, shark, and fluke. He uses bunker usually for bait and goes for bigger fish. He likes to cast as far as possible since he’s often fishing from the shoreline.
I’m hoping with that description, someone can let me know what kind of rod/reel would be best (looking in the Ugly Stik brand only in this case). I was looking at the rod in the pictures, but I’m basically guessing at the specs. Could someone recommend a good rod/reel combo for him or let me know if I’m headed in the right direction?
