It’s a trout. The name is a common named for fish in the subfamily’s:
Salmoninae- Atlantic
Oncorhynchus- Pacific
Salvelinus- circum Arctic or charr
Lake trout are also known by their scientific name:
Salvelinus namaycush
One of my favorite fish to catch when they move shallow. Had a spot on Superior I could catch them on a fly from a rocky bank

People in the Gulf Coast call weakfish “sea trout” or people all over the world call unrelated fish “bass” so it’s a lot more forgiveable if it’s technically like trout’s half brother.
