Abu Garcia Mac SX 7.6ft ultralight with any Garcia black max reel -$80 CAD

South Bend R2F Plus fishing combo, 5’6ft – $50 CAD

I currently have a couple medium-medium/heavy rods but catching 1-2lb bass feels like nothing on them. Looking to feel more fight so opting for a lighter setup. Which is a better setup for this? Only concern with the ultralight is if I randomly hook a 3-4 lb fish will it snap?

If you have drag low a 4 lb fish should NOT snap 6 lb line. It’s doable on 4 lb line as well but you better have that drag low. And you need a net. If you pull them out of the water and they shake the line is definitely snapping.

For ultralight it’s probably better to go shorter. If the goal is to feel a fight you probably want 6 ft or shorter

Not going by price, but I’m going with the Abu Garcia. I use a 7ft and a 5’6″ ultralight with 4lb line, and it makes the 1-2lb bass really fun. I also love going after bluegill and other such fish with it. The smaller fish are just a lot more fun on a rod. So far my biggest is 2.8lb, basically used my line as a weed eater going through the grass
