Looking at buying a reel yak as my first fishing kayak and wanted to hear if anybody has had any experience with them. They seem pricey but I love the idea of it’s just me I can make it 1 person and if I fiancé wants to cruise or fish with me she can as well. This is the one I was looking at the most it’s on sale for $2250. I just figure why by 2-3 kayaks or just to dive in the deep end get something that seems quality and meets all my needs. Any thoughts?

  1. These are the same Chinese manufactured kayaks, I would not say it is ‘quality’. To compare the closest pedal drive fins tandem with Hobie, it costs about 5000$.

The idea of a modular kayak is interesting, but also has it’s flaws. There is probably a reason that none of the most popular brands with a long history of producing quality products and great customer service, have never made these things.

There are some people on the sub here that use the Reel yaks without issue and there have been some who have had internal leaking that is unable to be drained or drive failures. The online review videos I have seen look very cheap and I would not be confident something like that would last as long as I would want, for spending over 2000$.
