Just grabbed this kit from the local walmart a few days ago. So far, so good. Only qualms I have are, the 2 piece rod! Is there a trick besides the twist and push method to help really mate the 2 pieces together? I haven't had it fly apart yet. But about every 4-5 casts, I look down and see the eyelets at a 45° offset of eachother. The rod slowly twists as you cast. And this really seems to be a very quite common issue.
Another issue i wanted to address before it happens, people claim in the reviews that the reel falls apart due to a screw that slowly backs itself out over time. Before I go through ALL of them and hit them with a little blue locktite, is anyone aware of this issue? Maybe have some insight or location of this problem fastener?
I realize its cheap and you get what you pay for. Worse comes to worse i just buy a little 4'8", 1 piece GX2 rod. I enjoy the action of the pole and the buttery smooth supplied reel. It's really not a terrible setup for a beginner.
I've contacted ugly stik directly to see what they suggest. But in the mean time, I wanted to get some insight.!
