Win was blowing hard and could barely hold bottom so put on a 5oz bank sinker casting into the surf and rod snapped. Am I missing something and or doing something wrong? Rod is rated 2-6oz so I thought I would have been fine tbh

There might have been a chip or weak spot already in the rod, which can compromise the structure. Also, the wright ratings aren’t always super accurate depending on how you cast. You might able to throw a 6oz, but that doesn’t you can whip it with a ton of snap.
Have you used it a while , could have been just stress point in the rod that built up over time
I actually have the 10 ft 2-8 oz (granted I think I throw at most 4 oz + bait with it) and a 12 ft tica and I’ve had no issues
