My late father was a long time fisherman and very rarely let us kids use his gear. He passed sometime ago, and as I have become a mediocre fisher, I finally decided to take a look at his rigs. This is clearly a left-handed Garcia Mitchell 301, still in good shape — even though he was right handed, and so am I, we I fish lefthanded and reel with the right. A family quirk!
I am having a really hard time identifying this rod, though. The label is quite worn and says “Amco” but this brand does not seem to be a thing. The handle of the rod appears to be red aluminum with cork upper and lower, while the telescoping fiberglass rod is burgundy. I cannot find any other embellishments or stamps on it, and have poked around eBay and vintage fishing sites and Lens’d it to no avail.
Does anybody happen to have any input or knowledge on this rod? I would sure appreciate hearing about it or your stories. Thank you!
