Re-purposed a 5' medium action spincast rod that my son doesn't use anymore and paired it with the Profishency Tiny But Mighty micro baicast reel. It weighs in at 5.7oz with 5 bearings, a magnetic brake, and a 5.6:1 gear ratio. Pictured with a standard rig for size comparison. Spooled it with Power Pro 8lb braid and hit the water yesterday. Was pulling 'em out nonstop.
This whole thing was just a fun experiment but I think this has quickly become my new favorite panfish setup. Have been using an old Shakespeare mico spinning reel on a 4'6" graphite rod for years but this new baitcast rig allows for much more control over placement when fishing in and around cover and the small size really lets you feel the fight these little fish put up. Was a fun day out on the water and just wanted to share.
