This is the rod I’ve been using, just had it from years ago. I’m only using lures that I cast and retrieve – spoons, plugs, cranks etc.
feels like this is a very thick butt rod to be repeat casting with. Is there a better option I should consider that would be more hand friendly? (I can only last about an hour casting this thing)

Ugly stiks are not the best rods for lures. They are heavy and they are not sensitive. I have an 8 foot tsunami surf rod that isn’t crazy expensive and is a great rod for lures.
A physically lighter rod will help you last longer than 30 mins but I get the feeling you’ll also need to up your endurance. The best workout to up your endurance is to fish more often.
Where are you fishing and for what species?
I had a great time last week surf fishing a spoon on my 7ft Ugly Stik GX2 medium rod and a Penn 3000 reel. Reel size is also a big factor when throwing lures.
Fish it and find out if it works for you!
