I had bought this combo at bass pro. I mainly do pier fishing, it was what recommended. But since I have a sudden day off on Friday I wanna try the lake. I’m asking if I can cast this? I was told I shouldn’t. But I see people casting similar reels all the time. Could I use this at the lake? Be as brutal as you’d like.

What you got is for trolling, even the lines seems like lead core line, I doubt it will work well for casting. How are you using it on pier?
Counter reels like this are generally used for trolling. The counter lets you manage how much line you have out, which helps with getting the lure down to the desired depth. When trolling, you dont really cast as much as you just let the line out as the boat moves forward. I’ve never tried casting one, though, so im not really sure how it would perform, I just know that its intended use doesn’t really involve casting.
