Im trying to get back into fishing and wanted a pole to play around with that didn't have the sentimental value my dad's gear, so I grabbed a random sturdy looking pole at the thrift store and rewrapped it with new thread and epoxy.
When I was sitting trying to get the birdsnest I made on the third cast off the beach my neighbor walked up and let me know my dad's reel was definitely intended for trolling (I anticipated that but impatience to play won out, and boy was I punished in return I'm still untangling it) and he explained that for shore casting you'd want something with a big hole on the bottom for a guide and some very helpful other tips before lending me a pole to keep practicing on for the afternoon. Suddenly I realized "wow maybe poles aren't that interchangeable, I really assumed flexibility and length was all that really mattered and after that it was up to the reel and the tackle" and now I'm extremely curious what it's intended use is.
It has only three guides, a rubber bottom of its wooden handle that spins. No brand, and reverse image searching did me nothing.
